Adoption Education and Resources
There are a wide variety of excellent resources, both locally and available through the web. We do not presume to have a comprehensive list. Rather we offer the following links in order to help you start the process of learning more about adoption and in particular, international adoption.
- Center for Adoption Support and Education , located in the Washington, DC suburbs offers workshops on adoption topics, peer groups for adoptees, and individual and family counseling as well as a good listing of resources.
- The Barker Foundation, a licensed social work agency in business for over 60 years, offers adoption education, counseling, and post-adoption support and places children for adoption from multiple countries.
- Mid-Atlantic Chapter of Resolve, the national infertility and adoption organization, offers workshops, publications, and provides information about adoption.
- Adoption Learning Partners is an online adoption education group with courses on a variety of adoption topics.
- National Adoption Clearinghouse is a comprehensive resource on all aspects of adoption.
- Adoption Resource Center of Connecticut publishes and updates The Report on Intercountry Adoption, a detailed look at all aspects of intercountry adoption, available in hard copy or online.
- Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute seeks to improve adoption laws, policies, and practices.
- Joint Council on International Children's Services focuses on ethical international adoption.
- Latin American Parents Association, a national group, supports adoptive families with connections to many Latin American countries.
- National Capitol Region chapter of LAPA is located in the Washington DC metro area.
- Finding Home, 50 Years of International Adoption is a collection of articles, interviews, stories, and pictures about international adoption.
