Sources of Information and Support
In the Washington, DC area, there are several good sources of support for adoptees seeking advice, counseling, and/or links to other adoptees:
- Center for Adoption Support and Education (CASE) offers a wide range of services for adoptees and their families.
- The Barker Foundation also offers a range of post-adoption services, including homeland tours, small peer groups, and counseling.
- Yahoo Colombian Adoptee Search and Support group is available to adoptees, families, and friends who are interested in Colombian search, and the list owner is Sue Cordes. Information available depends completely upon the contributions of the members, and as such may or may not address the whole range of search and support issues.
- Colombian Connections is a list for adoptive families who have children from Colombia or are adopting from Colombia. Much of the discussion is about initiating adoptions, but occasionally questions or comments from adoptees are discussed. To join, send a blank message to ColombianConnections-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or register on the web at Colombia Connections. The list owner is Patti Thompson at drivearedbmw@yahoo.com.
- Yahoo Friends of FANA specifically supports families and adoptees from FANA. The group is managed by the Colombian Amigos de FANA, the local parent-run support organization. You also can contact Amigos de FANA directly at info@amifana.org.
